Job overview
We are seeking to appoint a passionate and dedicated full time Teacher of Religious Studies who is able to teach across the Senior School age range (13-18 years) and who can prepare pupils for GCSE and, potentially, A-Level examinations in the subject. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality lessons that stimulate intellectual curiosity and foster a love of learning. They will provide guidance and support to our pupils, helping them to achieve their full potential.
The position is suitable for an experienced teacher who is seeking to develop in a new and stimulating environment. Yet, the post might equally appeal to an innovative and energetic teacher earlier in their career.
The ability to teach also PSHE will be an advantage.
The post is initially for a fixed term for twelve months, until 31 December 2025. There may be potential for it to subsequently become permanent for the right Religious Studies candidate, as numbers taking this subject have grown in recent years. Our Religious Studies Department sits within the Faculty of Humanities. We follow a ‘home grown’ enquiry-based course in Year 9, which covers Spirituality & Cults, Crime & Punishment, and Ethics.
Religious Studies has become an increasingly popular subject as indicated by the fact that take up has risen dramatically in recent years, with three groups currently studying in S10. Pupils can progress to A-Level, where we study the OCR syllabus that focuses on the Philosophy of religion, Ethics and Theology. GCSE and A Level is currently shared between two teachers.
The department is keen to develop visits to reinforce pupils' knowledge and understanding and the Head of RS is currently organising a trip to St Paul’s to study both religious iconography and the relationship between society and the church. Attending conferences has also been a staple of VI teaching.
The post will commence as early as possible.
