Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and innovative teacher to join our highly

professional and successful science team on a temporary basis to cover maternity

leave. This post is not expected to go beyond August 31 2025. The successful

candidate will be a skilled practitioner who is able to inspire and enthuse students

through dynamic and creative teaching. This is an excellent opportunity for a

dedicated and ambitious colleague to join a truly outstanding department in a

successful, progressive and happy school.

King James’s School is justifiably proud to be one of the highest attaining 11-16

comprehensive school in Kirklees and is regularly heavily oversubscribed. The school

serves a suburban area and several villages to the south and east of Huddersfield. We

became an Academy in September 2012. The school was awarded ‘Good’ in its

November 2019 inspection and consistently achieves excellent grades at GCSE.

‘The King James’s Way’ sets out the values and commitments which lie at the centre of

everything we do. Though we are proud of our academic success, we are equally proud

of our inclusive approach and first class, wraparound pastoral care.

At King James’s School we are proud of our inclusive and supportive working

environment. As an organisation that values and nurtures talent, we are committed to

helping you fulfil your potential. With a comprehensive training and development

programme, tailored to your needs and the requirements of the school, we will enable

you to flourish in your role and perform to the very best of your abilities.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children

and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. We ask all applicants

to provide us with two references, which will be obtained prior to any interview. We

will also carry out online searches for all candidates who are shortlisted for interview as

part of our due diligence. Any successful candidate will be required to undertake

an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This post involves direct

contact with children and is considered to be a regulated activity. This role is exempt for

the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, so most criminal convictions must be disclosed

to us.

If you have any questions about the role please call Tracey Brook, PA to the Principal, or email her (staff.tbrook@kingjames.school).

Completed application forms should be returned to the Principal or e-mailed to Tracey –

staff.tbrook@kingjames.school by 9:00 on Monday November 25th 2024.

supportive school, King James’s School could be the place for you!

King James’s School is a highly successful and oversubscribed 11-16 comprehensive school (NOR 1050), serving a suburban area and a scatter of villages to the east and south of Huddersfield. It is situated approximately 2 miles from the centre of Huddersfield in a semi-rural position overlooking the Farnley Valley. The school, whose origins go back to the thirteenth century and has occupied its present site since 1547,  became a stand-alone Academy in 2012.

King James’s is a truly comprehensive school. The annual intake of 210 students has a very broad socio-economic mix and our ethnic mix closely resembles that of the wider British society. The intake comes predominantly from our catchment areas of Almondbury, Lepton, Kirkheaton and Grange Moor, but we also receive a significant number from outside the area.

The essence of our school is built around three Hs:

  • our distinguished History; values and traditions dating back more than 400 years
  • our Holistic provision, which develops students both academically and pastorally; a curriculum that promotes social mobility, high-quality teaching with a focus on academic rigour and a strong extra-curricular offer
  • our High expectations and aspirations; the expectation of excellent attendance, punctuality and behaviour

We provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages all of our students to achieve to the best of their ability. The School provides a broad and balanced curriculum that allows all students to reach the highest standards of education, underpinned by dedicated Pastoral care to support the learning and emotional needs of our students.

The curriculum is organised through seven Curriculum Faculties: English, Mathematics, Science, Languages, Humanities, Performance and Creative. At KS3 (Y7-9), our offer comprises subjects from all these faculties. At KS4 (Y10-11) students follow GCSE courses in English Language, English Literature,  Mathematics and Science. In addition they choose four further subjects from a range of GCSE and Vocational courses, currently as follows: separate Science, French, Spanish, History, Geography, RE, Sociology, H&SC (Voc), Art, Textiles, Food, Graphics, i-Media (Voc), Computer Science, Enterprise and Marketing (Voc), Music (Voc), Drama (Voc), and Physical Education.

We have excellent facilities including extensive grounds, six computer suites, an Independent Learning Centre and other specialist teaching rooms.

In recent years teachers at King James’s School have been involved in numerous research teaching projects with a wide variety of different organisations. All of these initiatives have led to the School being at the forefront of development in Teaching and Learning.
