The Ladder School is a forward thinking, inclusive and life-changing Alternative Provision school. We work with children who need a second chance to be a success at school. We are a happy, warm, welcoming school and value the relationships we build every day with our colleagues, the students and their families.
Due to expanding numbers, we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed teacher of Maths that can teach up to GCSE level. The curriculum has been fully planned and resourced with every teacher having their own new and well resourced classroom to teach in. Class sizes are small (usually a maximum of 10) and every class comes with their own Learning Coach who attends all lessons.
We welcome qualified teachers, including those looking for full-time and/or part-time work; we are also happy to consider applicants without a Maths specialism or have QTS so long as you are willing to work towards qualification. Returners to the profession are also welcomed and will receive our full support through our induction programme; we are a family-friendly employer. We particularly welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and with protected characteristics. We are looking for the right person to work as part of our amazing team.
An ability or wish to teach in a second subject also welcomed – we are a school where you can thrive and grow.
What we can offer you:
- A happy workplace within a strong Multi-Academy Trust;
- Strong leadership dedicated to making sure you are the best you can be;
- Free breakfast and free two-course freshly home-cooked lunch every day;
- Additional Wellbeing Days to our calendared INSET Days;
- The opportunity to request an extra paid day off of your choice across the school year as a thank you for being part of our team;
- Your own laptop;
- Free access to sector-leading CPD;
- Discounts on everyday purchases via EdenRed;
- A comprehensive free of charge health plan via Simplyhealth;
- A salary sacrifice electric car scheme via Tusker;
- A cycle to work scheme via Halfords.

The Ladder School is an academy that is part of The Mercian Trust. The Ladder School is a Free School set up by the Trust to offer effective alternative provision for the young people of Walsall.
The Ladder School was established in January 2019 and has now moved in to a brand new, purpose-built building based on the edge of Walsall town centre where there are excellent links to the local and wider community. The Ladder School operates under a commissioning model, where local mainstream schools identify students at risk of permanent exclusion and moves them to The Ladder School, to transform their behaviour and enable them to be successful in their future. These students have struggled in mainstream education environments and benefit significantly from the smaller class sizes and additional support on offer at The Ladder School.
