Stratford Preparatory School is seeking a proactive, creative and positive individual to provide targeted SEN intervention support for a specific pupil with Special Educational Needs.

For the suitable candidate this position will be offered with an immediate start subsequent to the required safer recruitment checks being completed.

For the right candidate, this post may lead on to a longer term position in school as a classroom teaching assistant.

Key aspects of the role are:

  • To work within the inclusion team to provide targeted and specialist support for a pupil in reception
  • To help identify areas that would benefit the pupil in additional support beyond universal provision
  • To use effective assessment tools and tracking to demonstrate impact


Outline of Responsibilities

  • To work with selected individual in class under the direction of the class teacher and SENDCo
  • To help plan and organise learning activities for student being supported
  • To provide support in a manner which facilitates the child’s cognitive development by removing barriers to learning
  • To clarify, modify and adapt materials to an appropriate level according to their needs
  • Under the guidance of the SENCO, contribute to setting individual targets and to the review of those targets
  • Attend and contribute to meetings to review student progress, and contribute to written reports
  • To monitor the progress of identified students, keep written records consistent with Academy systems and provide the teacher with feedback on students’ progress in relation to provision
  • To provide support for students' emotional and social development by encouraging and modelling positive behaviour
  • To liaise with professionals and external agencies where necessary under the direction of the SENDCo.
  • To assist in the production of appropriate teaching materials
  • To contribute to the target setting and review process and support the pupil in meeting specific targets of IEP
  • To liaise with staff, parents and relevant professionals
  • To undertake relevant training as part of continuing professional development.
  • Attend all staff meetings and supervision sessions
  • To maintain appropriate records of work and progress
  • To promote the pupil’s inclusion within the school
  • To promote the pupil’s independence skills in communication, learning and social skills


Experience required:

  • At least one year working as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a pupil with special educational needs in a Junior School environment
  • Experience in working with a pupil (or pupils) with ASD


Preferred qualifications :

  • Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Any relevant qualifications or specialist training (such as Team Teach or AET courses) would be an advantage
  • Qualifications and/or experience of working with children with specific needs (ASD would be an advantage)


This role is term time with the addition of inset and open days.
