Aurora Fairway School  

Part of the Aurora Group, Aurora Fairway School in St. Ives, Cambridge is looking for an Unqualified Teacher to join our team. You will be delivering high quality vocational subject to children and young people with SEMH, ASD and other complex or anxiety related needs who may present with challenging behaviours associated with their diagnosis. Some students may have multiple learning difficulties. NB Experience in working with SEMH or ASD is essential.

 

Aurora Fairway is a specialist day school offering academic and therapeutic provision for students aged 11-16 with a range of complex learning needs including social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication difficulties and autism. The Aurora Group is an innovative provider of education and care for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities across England. 

 

Key Duties:

  • To contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum, having regard to the educational, physical and social needs of the students within a learning environment.
  • To work collaboratively with other members of staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • To set, monitor and review personalised targets that will optimise learning for each individual.
  • To monitor, assess, review and report on the progress and work of students to parents, team members, senior staff, examination and funding bodies through reports and identified meetings as directed and as is required through school policies and procedures.
  • To develop lesson plans analysing and self-reflecting on the outcomes.
  • To attend and contribute to all relevant meetings and maintain good lines of communication with other staff.
  • To provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge.
  • To assist in the development of the curriculum offer.
  • To work in a non-confrontational way to ensure individual needs are met.
  • To appropriately manage challenging behaviour within the school policy and procedures.

Job Description - Unqualified Teacher

 

Qualifications and experience: 

  • GCSE pass above C grade 4 in English and Maths
  • Evidence of previous experience is essential
  • Postgraduate diploma in SEN is desirable
  • Experience of working in a special school environment and in particular with students with SEMH is desirable
  • Experience of successfully delivering a differentiated curriculum to students with a wide range of needs.

 

Knowledge:

  • Excellent knowledge of the national curriculum
  • Working knowledge of SEMH students with complex needs including ASD.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of autism and associated co-morbid conditions and how these can affect learning.
  • Curriculum development and implementation for pupils with SEN and in particular autism
