Visiting Music Teacher – Cello with Piano

Harrodian is seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and inspirational Cello specialist with Piano as a second instrument to join our successful and vibrant Music department. The successful applicant must be able to motivate and inspire children of all ages and abilities to make good progress in their instrument, develop their musicianship and foster in them a love of music across a range of styles.

This position is for up to one day of teaching per week in the first instance, but there is the scope to increase this for the right candidate. Candidates must be able to teach on either a Monday, a Wednesday or a Friday. The role is term time only. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Teaching individual cello lessons from beginner level to Grade 8 and beyond.
• Teaching individual piano lessons to second-study or beginner piano students.
• Preparing pupils, when and where appropriate, for the requirements of Grade Music examinations, GCSE and A Level in collaboration with the music department.
• Preparing pupils for internal and external exams, performances, competitions and auditions, as well as for other school events such as concerts, assemblies and recitals.
• The post-holder will be expected to deliver a minimum of 30 individual lessons per pupil in each academic year and may be invited to take on other duties on an occasional or regular basis, depending on the needs of the School and the students' needs.
• There is no guaranteed number of pupils or hours of teaching.
• The post-holder will be expected to conform to the administrative and reporting procedures of the School, writing termly reports on individual pupils, managing their own timetables with the support of the Music Administrator, maintaining lesson record sheets, and reporting absences from lessons.
• They will also be expected to be supportive of the activities of the department.

Departmental Structure 

This post reports to the Director of Music. 

Accommodation and Equipment 

There are four full-time music teachers at Harrodian, as well as a team of 17 visiting music staff, teaching a variety of instruments. The Music Department is housed in its own building and incorporates three teaching classrooms, seven practice rooms and an auditorium space for concerts and recitals. There are 12 iMacs in the department, each running Logic Pro X, Garageband and Sibelius software.

Salary 

Visiting Music Teachers at Harrodian are self-employed at a rate of £55.00 per hour, and the contract for lessons is between the pupil and the teacher. Our Visiting Music Teachers are self-employed and will invoice parents directly. Instrumental and vocal lessons are given on a weekly basis.

Founded in 1993, the school is co-educational and set in SW London in 25 acres of grounds with excellent facilities. It is a calm and beautiful place to work. Individual music lessons are given in all the usual instruments and singing. Over 40% of the school’s pupils have music lessons in school. Approximately 400 instrumental and vocal lessons take place each week, as well as a wide range of choirs and ensembles.
