Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a creative, dynamic and self-motivated Year 7 Transition and Intervention Teacher, with a track record of outstanding practice, to develop the support we provide for students as they transition from primary school and also for students with additional learning needs in all year groups. This role would include teaching the core curriculum to Year 7 students in our nurture group, and leading and delivering on a wide range of numeracy and literacy interventions for students in need of additional support, including SEND students and students with English as an Additional Language. It would also include the development and delivery of a bespoke alternative curriculum to small groups of students at Key Stage 4.

This role would suit both current practitioners in both primary and secondary phases as although much of your time will see you working with Year 7 students, you will also work with students from other year groups to close gaps in key knowledge they are missing, particularly in literacy and numeracy. If you are passionate about giving students a firm foundation in their first year of secondary school, identifying and closing gaps through the securing of knowledge and skills delivered within the primary sector and would facilitate this by utilising the core principles of good primary practise, then we would like to meet you.

We are an inclusive school and the successful candidate will be committed to providing learning to meet the needs of all abilities, so enabling each child to achieve their personal best. In addition, you will be fully committed to the professional development of yourself and others, so supporting all you work with and in the wider school.

We are looking for staff who:

·       Are dedicated, passionate and committed to high quality teaching & learning

·       Have excellent subject knowledge and understanding of the upper primary phase, with a passion for literacy and numeracy and the delivery of learning opportunities across a range of subjects

·       Are keen to develop and deliver a bespoke alternative curriculum at Key Stage 4, for small groups of students

·       Are excellent communicators – with both young people and adults

·       Build strong relationships with young people and enthuse, engage, motivate and challenge them

· Enjoy working with and supporting SEND students and students who have English as an additional language, helping them achieve their potential

· Are dedicated to raising achievement and can see the potential in all

· Have high standards and expectations of themselves, staff and students

Key responsibilities include:

· To identify gaps in knowledge and skills, delivering creative and stimulating lessons across a range of subjects that ensure accelerated progress, high quality curriculum provision and effective teaching and learning within the transition area for students with additional needs.

· To promote the general development and well-being of individual pupils, any class or group of pupils assigned to them principally.

· To ensure appropriate induction for students and parents regarding the transition Curriculum

·        To lead, plan and deliver literacy and numeracy interventions for students, including catch-up EAL interventions and functional skills qualifications.

·        To plan and deliver a bespoke alternative curriculum for a small group of students at Key Stage 4.

·        To help build good relationships with local primary schools

We offer:

·        Supportive faculty leaders and teams, who will share curriculum design and resources to support planning for students under your care

·        A strong SEN Team, with both leaders and TAs who form strong relationships with students and are ambitious for students and their families, in turn working with you to support students to achieve their potential

·        A leadership team who are highly visible and who will offer line management and support in all aspects of the role and will work with you when considering the development of a bespoke Key Stage 4 curriculum

·        A talented staff team who welcome new challenges and are committed to supporting and developing colleagues

·        Quality continuous professional development, and a commitment to actively address any areas of need so the successful candidate can approach the role with confidence

·        Opportunities to work in collaboration with partner schools, where available

·        A supportive community and Governing Board
