Reception and FS2 version of Birth to 5 Matters guidance for Early Years provision. Cut and Paste statements for planning/assesment etc. In the past I used a ‘cut and paste’ Development Matters statements documents from TES, so wondered if this Birth to 5 Matters ‘cut and paste’ statements for Reception class would be useful to anyone. I have tried to note where it differs from DM. It includes all statements for Ranges 4-6 which covers from 24 to 70 months.

Design an Olympic village

This is part of a cross curricular topic on the Olympics. Children research what athletes and spectators need in an Olympic Park and Village. They choose which to design and map it out, using the budget they are given. They can they create and advertising campaign to attract visitors. You could extend it with income for how many visitors they attract and costs for runing the park, to then calculate profit and loss. Hopefully They will then build their villages/parks in DT.

Geography and maths challenge looking at people travelling to the Olympics. We used atlases to estimate distances using the scale and a ruler, then found an exact mileage on the internet. Children learned how to use the key to find the capital citiy symbol. Could be a good starter activity for over a week.
