This revision grid is designed to help you prepare for the GCSE Dance written exam in a structured and active way. The grid contains a wide range of questions covering all sections of the specification:
Performance skills – physical, technical, expressive, and mental skills, plus safe practice and nutrition.
Choreography – choreographic processes, devices, structures, approaches, and key terminology.
Critical appreciation – knowledge and understanding of the six anthology works, including choreographers, intent, aural setting, costume, staging/set, props, lighting, performance environment, and use of dance for camera.
Each box contains a question or task that encourages you to:
Recall key definitions and lists.
Apply knowledge through examples and explanations.
Analyse and interpret how production features and skills contribute to performance and choreographic intent.
Reflect personally on meaning and effectiveness.
You can use the grid in different ways:
Work through it systematically, question by question.
Pick random boxes for quick-fire revision.
Colour-code or tick off questions as you gain confidence.
Practise short written responses to exam-style prompts.
The aim is to cover the whole course content in manageable chunks, while practising the style of thinking and writing needed for the exam.
A simple breakdown of the marking criteria for each element of the NEA elements of the course, complete with subject specific terminology to support with student feedback.
I print these, laminate them, and whiteboard marker all over them when marking practical work. A quick wipe and I’m ready to tick through the criteria for the next student!
Each section also has grade boundaries below, using the 2024 grade boundaries plus 5% to give students a guide of what they’re working at.
**GCSE Dance Professional Works Knowledge Organisers – All Works
**
These knowledge organisers provide a clear, structured overview of the six professional anthology works studied in GCSE Dance:
A Linha Curva
Artificial Things
Emancipation of Expressionism
Infra
Shadows
Within Her Eyes
Each organiser sets out the key facts and information for its work, including:
Choreographic intent – the purpose and meaning behind the piece.
Choreographic approach – how the choreographer developed movement material.
Structure – how the dance is organised.
Stimulus – the starting point for the choreography.
Costume, lighting, aural setting, staging/set and props – production features that support meaning and audience interpretation.
The organisers are designed to help you:
Learn and recall key knowledge quickly.
Compare and contrast the different professional works.
Revise efficiently for exam questions on Section C of the written paper.
Use precise subject vocabulary when analysing and evaluating.
You can use them to:
Test yourself by covering up sections.
Create flashcards or quick quizzes.
Practise writing short exam-style responses using the facts.
Spot links between different works (e.g. use of set, choreographic intent).
These organisers act as a revision toolkit, condensing the essential knowledge for each work into one place so you can approach the exam with confidence.
