Space Assembly - Solar System/Planets... KS2

(1)

This class assembly is all about Space. It discusses the Sun and the 8 planets within, then moves on to the earth and its rotation and orbit of the sun. It talks about Constellations and ends with a dramatic entrance from a spacecraft with a ‘mini’ Neil Armstrong emerging and discuss about the 1st landing on the moon. You would need to build a make-shift space craft for a child to fit into. We used 4 large bit of card-board and stuck tin foil all around it and made an American flag. The children loved it. We also found a kid’s spacesuit for our mini Neil Armstrong. You will also need the Sun and Planets blow ups, easily and cheaply purchased from Amazon. It doesn’t come with a Space song, but again songs with lyrics are easily found through a simple youtube search.

Within the attached documents is a 6 week project outlined through a Medium Term Plan explained in detail week by week steps. This includes: investigation, design, making and evaluation of the invention. I followed the video attached with the children when it came to the actual making stage (stopping and starting the video as necessary). This meant I had to pre-watch the video and order/make the required materials needed for the entire class. I split the children into groups of 3 and made 10+ Orreries at the same time. The children loved the project and got to use equipment such as: small hand saws, hot glue guns and small hammers. There is also an opportunity to show case completed work in assembly etcetera…

Earth, Sun and Moon - Class Assembly KS2

This was a KS2 class assembly linked to our topic ‘Space’. I had previously (1 year earlier) done an Assembly on ‘Space’ but with a focus on ‘Planets’ and couldn’t repeat the same assembly. So made a new one, same time of year/same curriculum, but this assembly focusses on the ‘Moon’ and its phases. A word document is provided with the play script, a Ppt presentation to accompany the play script and a mp4 video format of the song - with lyrics - of the song ‘Bad Moon Rising’ by Creedence Clearwater Revival. We didn’t sing this song; instead we created a dance as a class (lined up at the front in a single file facing the audience) with each move linked to the lyrics. The children helped create the moves which made the assembly practise all the more engaging. The TA stood at the back during the assembly and the children followed her moves simultaneously. Any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask. I hope this description helps.

Victorian's Assembly - KS2

This is a 20/25 minute assembly on Victorians. It jumps through time travel in a Tardis (with Dr Who and some companions) back to different Victorian times. There are 4 different scenes to get through including; Queen Victoria, Charles Dickens and Florence Nightengale. The children all contributed by bringing in their own costumes on the day and together they constructed and painted the ‘Tardis’ - see attached photo using cardboard and paints. There is an accompanying Ppt (with audio files included within) to go along with the playscript and a separate MP4 file with a simple but catchy song about the Victorians (we incorporated some basic movements to go along with the song, directly from the video). The children loved practising this assembly and it was perfect to promote interest in the ‘Topic’ fr the half term.

These resources provide Medium Term Plans for French for any KS2 year group, depending on prior knowledge. The plans explain each lesson focus and has attached resources. There are also ideas and weblinks within the planning to make the teaching easier and fun for the children. I spoke conversational Spanish and NO French prior to being MFL Coordinator, I’m learning with the children every week as we progress. I’m having as much fun as them learning new vocabulary through speaking and listening games. So don’t worry if you’re not a linguist, give it a go, the children love it!
