Beat & Rhythm Strips-Regular, Stick, & Iconic

These rhythm and beat strips are a really great way to help kids understand the relationship of note values to each other. They make abstract concepts more concrete and let the kids see and feel the relationship the notes have to each other. It really seems to ‘click’ with the kids once they start to use these. The beat strips are a great activity for stations, for dictation, and for composition. Kids also love testing each other, and with the option to have the counting pronunciations on the flip side, kids can test themselves and challenge a friend. I love to do music centers and stations, and these work great as a station. Each different note or note combination has its own page to make personalization and copying easy. Each page of notes has a corresponding page that can be copied on the back with the counting pronunciations on it, so kids can make a rhythm and then flip it over to check their understanding, or make a rhythm and test a friend! If copying both sides you’ll want to use colored paper or card stock since it shows through white paper. Printing each set on a different color paper makes it easier to clean up without mixing up the sets. There are four files in this set. 1.Beat strips in four different meters, with and without time signatures. 2.Standard notation notes and pronunciation. 3.Stick notation notes and pronunciation. 4.Iconic notation and pronunciation. I have included iconic notation squares for your littlest musicians, with icons for many popular ta and ti-ti songs. I like to say a phrase to a song and have the kids put down the rhythm that they hear. They are also very useful when we start to learn ta and ti-ti. They can make a rhythm and then flip them over to see what the notes are called. Iconic notation includes pictures for these songs: Teddy Bear Star Light Star Bright or Twinkle Twinkle Bluebird Snail, Snail Doggie Doggie Rain, Rain Frog in the Meadow Bernie Bee or Bee, Bee Mouse Mousie Cobbler
