In this engaging STEM lesson module, junior students will delve into the fascinating world of buoyancy, discovering that it is the upward force that allows objects to float on fluids. Through hands-on activities and thought-provoking questions, students will explore the principles of positive, negative, and neutral buoyancy, gaining an understanding of how shape and density influence buoyant force. The module not only focuses on theoretical concepts but also encourages practical application, challenging students to design a device capable of navigating the forces of buoyancy. Emphasizing safety and utilizing common household materials, this lesson aims to cultivate a profound comprehension of buoyancy’s role in the physical world, fostering scientific curiosity and critical thinking among junior learners.

The module is aimed at experiential hands on learning for children. The following learning objectives are covered in the module,

• Students will be able to understand that certain substances dissolve in water that means they disappear when added in water.
• Students will realise when solutes are mixed with solvent; the combination is called solution. Solvent is the substance that is capable of dissolving other substances.
• Students should learn that the materials that dissolve in water are called soluble materials. The materials that don’t dissolve in water are called insoluble materials.
• Students will be able to understand that there is always a limit for dissolving other substances. When a liquid reaches the limit and cannot dissolve more substances, it is called saturated solution.
• Students should notice that a liquid can dissolve solids, liquids and gases.
