A cross-curricular lesson for English/Science based on the theme of space with a worksheet to complete activities on. Activities are based on Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and lead to creative tasks.

This scheme of work covers some of the most famous works of literature in English history and looks specifically at language analysis in older texts. There are a variety of tasks looking at reading, writing and speaking and listening skills with various assessment points throughout.

Tasks in the scheme focus mainly on the application of relevant contextual factors to each text, for example: hysteria and the treatment of women in Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights; xenophobic attitudes in Victorian Britain in relation to Dracula; homophobic discrimination in The Picture of Dorian Gray.

History and literature are inter-weaved throughout the scheme of learning and tasks become more challenging as students work through it. Statement, quote, investigate is the language analysis framework used and can easily be adapted depending on departmental policies.
