EYFS Early Level Numeracy planing tool

(0)
About this planning tool There are key areas in numeracy that collectively underpin children’s early mathematical learning. The areas included in this resource provide the firm foundations for the mathematics that children will encounter as they go up the years in primary school. The areas are progressive; it is important that a child fully masters an understanding of cardinality and counting before moving onto comparing amounts for example. Included in this planning tool are : • Cardinality and Counting: understanding that the cardinal value of a number refers to the quantity, or ‘howmanyness’ of things it represents e.g. the ‘threeness of three’ • Comparison: understanding that comparing numbers involves knowing which numbers are worth more or less than each other • Composition: understanding that one number can be made up from (composed from) two or more smaller numbers (addition and subtraction) Each key area has been broken down to a sequence of small steps to enable you as a practitioner to plan effectively. The areas have also been aligned to opportunities for assessment with the Education Scotland benchmarks and the CFE experiences and outcomes. Holistic group assessment tasks are available for purchase to support your ongoing observation and assessment of learning. The idea behind this resource is that it will provide a clear progression across early level numeracy. The idea is that it will be supplemented with opportunities for mathematics learning in play and through the use of existing resources in your establishment
