Comparing the UK to villages in rural northern ghana

6 week unit of work covering geography and art objectives for KS1. It is particularly focused on comparing your own local area (in may case a village in Nottinghamshire) with a school and surrounding villages in rural northern Ghana, Africa.
The unit of work is based around a real school that can be found on The King’s Village Ghana website and its connected charity.
If so desired school’s can also sponsor children attending The King’s School in addition to teaching them about the every day life of the children who live there.
This is a great opportunity for children to appreciate what life is like in other parts of the world and to develop an appreciation for the beauty and creativity found in other places.

I have included lesson plans, smart boards, powerpoints etc to make the lessons as comprehensive as possible.
If you have any questions about the resource or any of the activities then please feel free to contact me sarahfahy@hotmail.co.uk and I would be more than happy to discuss them with you. I can also make visits to local Nottinhamshire schools to talk about my visits to the King’s School in Ghana and show some Ghanaian objects and activities.
