This is the 6th lesson in my scheme of work for 'Animal Farm' designed for top set year 7.

This lesson begins by exploring the concept of a utopia and what that can mean through visual aids. In my class this led to an interesting discussion of the Garden of Eden story and how equality between man and animals could be linked to the novella.

The students then read Chapter 3 and reflect upon how it comes across as a utopia. This is followed by explaining 'foreshadowing' and then asking the students to consider the hints we are getting at an 'imperfect' world.

A 'HOT' question is given at the end with an opportunity to students to think more independently about the themes and ideas expressed in the chapter.
