4 songs on racism/integration

4 songs in French related to integration/racism - I gave one each to Y13 as homework, and asked them to research the artist and work out what the song is about and what might have prompted the artist to write it, and think about the effect of the video, lyrics and type of language used. They then did a presentation about it to the rest of the group, and we discussed whether music can have an impact on social issues and whether people in the public eye have a responsibility to use their status positively to give a message or raise awareness of an issue.
Some of the songs are quite challenging as they use a lot of slang and/or cultural references, so I made sure pupils knew that I wasn't expecting them to translate it all, they just needed to get the gist of the main issues/messages in the song.
