Focussing on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and in particular Stave Two, this lesson looks at how Fan and Belle are presented to the reader and their effects on the character of Scrooge - both as a young man and as an old one. We will look carefully at the use of language used to describe Scrooge and Belle’s meeting and analyse what Scrooge would be thinking when Belle ‘releases’ him from his engagement. A great lesson for KS4 students preparing for English Literature exams and easily adaptable for younger years as well.
