How to use this Journal and Independent study workbook

Astronomy is a natural science that studies the universe as a whole, investigating stars, planets and the galaxies above us. It has also engaged adults and children alike as a hobby and passion for centuries. Children and young adults are often enthralled with investigating the stars and planets and an interest in astronomy can provide a lifetime of fun and pleasure, a huge sense of wonder at the universe and spark the best of imaginations and fill them with inspiration.

This Journal and workbook is made up of a series of guided prompts. Each guided prompt is made up of four pages. The first three outline your activity and has space to record your findings in an informative creative manner so you can reflect on the activity and learning experience , the final page is a mini research task on many of the key terms that are significant in Astronomy. The final page in each spread is totally directed by the child, allowing for a personal focus and building an autonomous approach to a child’s learning. The structure of the book is ideal a learning tool for a school project, a personal project or as a home education resource.

Designed to be suitable for children of primary school age (6-11) this Journal is ideal for fostering a young child’s love of the world around them and their natural surroundings and is produced in a manner that it can be used anywhere at any time of the year. It can be dipped into or used weekly as an activity to continually nourish a child’s natural desire to explore their surroundings.
