Avatar Movie Guide | Worksheet | Questions | Google Slides (PG13 - 2009) challenges students to connect with characters, analyze arguments and justify their opinions with details from the movie. Ask students to think like a director and determine how the way the movie is filmed changes the message viewers receive. Compare how characters change throughout the film and interpret/debate the full meaning of important words/phrases. Compare Jake’s experience in the avatar with people’s experiences today in the virtual world and then identify pros and cons to the growing amount of time people spend in virtual worlds. Finally ask students to rate how realistic the fictional planet of Pandora was and support their ratings with details from the film.

  **CCSS Note: I’ve taken the liberty of aligning certain reading standards with the act of consuming content via the movie instead. Although students are not reading they are asked to perform the same cognitive functions on the content that they consumed from the movie.

**Distance Learning Tips:

• Distribute the google slides version to each student
• Use the screen sharing tool on your group call software to play the movie
• Pause the movie at each question to give students time to write/discuss
