What did Medieval people believe about the Black Death?
Lesson 2 in a SOL on the significance of the Black Death. This lesson looks at the medieval belief on causes and cures which can be compared to the previous modern interpretations lesson. For an engaging start to the lesson get students into the mindset of Medieval villagers being called to church for a meeting in front of the doom painting. Remind students of the importance of church and strong belief in Heaven and Hell (doom painting is probably the only one they have seen, so seems very real). Read source on second slide as if the a stranger has arrived to tell them about the disease.
For differentiation it is best for students to work in mixed ability groups while completing the source work. Sources have some challenging vocab so great for stretching students. Lower ability need to be directed towards the less complex sources.
(For some reason the worksheet looks muddled in the preview but if downloaded on microsoft word the formatting is fine.)
