Demo a reaction between an acid and a metal, getting students to discuss what bubbles mean in a reaction.
Explain to students that acid breaks down metal by making a salt and a gas. Students then need to go off and carry out a practical to react different metals with different acids and work out what the name of the salt and the gas is. Higher tier students are to answer the questions asking what is being oxidised and reduced and how they know.
