This differentiated Christmassy literacy lesson is suitable for Years 4, 5 and 6.
(I have not been observed teaching this particular lesson but I have received an Outstanding grade for all literacy observations in the last few years from my head teacher, as well as more senior outside observers.)
It explains the structure of a cinquain poem and involves children working in pairs to brainstorm vocabulary ideas which they will use to help them write their own individual poems.
It includes a learning objective, success criteria, teaching input, a starter, three way differentiated main activity and peer assessment plenary.
The poems produced are an ideal shape and length for writing up for display work onto a bauble or Christmas tree shape.
NB This file is the lesson plan only, and does not include the PowerPoint or writing frame mentioned in the plan. It does, however, detail what is on each slide of the PowerPoint in case you want to make your own. Alternatively, you can download the 'bundle' for £1 more, which includes everything.
