The key premise for the descriptive lesson is thinking like a writer : allowing yourself time to observe your surroundings, tapping into your sensory experience, and using personal memories as inspiration for description.

The key premise for the narrative lesson is to think character first, not plot first: Using the Henry James technique to uncover a characters inner and outer worlds, experiment with varied sentence starters, and focus on minute detail rather than lengthy overblown plots.

Both also focus on practical time and planning tips for the Paper 1 Question 5 AQA exam.

These lessons have had an incredible success rate with my students. Many have continued to keep a “Sense Diary” in the lead up to their exam and have told me how they were able to use much of this in the actual exam. Students have reported that coming up with ideas, figurative writing and time organisation.
