These are templates to use for a weekly dictado / dictation for bilingual classrooms that follow dual language / dual immersion formats. This closely follows the Biliteracy Squared format from Kathy Escamilla. Students do the dictado 3-5 times in the week. Space is provided above each line for students to write their corrections during the teacher talk-through.
Day 1: Teacher reads the dictado and students write what they hear. Teacher then talks through correct writing of the dictado as students write corrections above the lines.
Day 2 (optional): Students take turns giving the dictado to their partners.
Day 3: Repeat Day 1
Day 4 (optional): Repeat Days 2
Day 5: Teacher gives dictado and collects final dictados to grade.
The templates are provided in English and Spanish on different sheets. There are some pages with less lines for the lower grades and others with more lines for the upper grades.
I created this this year for my 1st grade dual language / dual immersion students and it was such a great success that I passed it along for my other Kinder, 1st grade, and 2nd grade colleagues to use. This has really helped us in our intentionality in planning our dictados in both English and Spanish!
