Dipping into Dickens 2: Social Commentary

This resource focuses on the need writers have to write about topics which affect their lives. Charles Dickens was one such writer because he did not come from a wealthy family. We see this concern in several of his novels: Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Little Dorrit and David Copperfield for example.

Looking closely at an extract from A Christmas Carol, students can consider social issues they are concerned about and think about how they would like to represent this to a reading audience.
