Resource that was used with a IGCSE1 class studying the Earthquakes and Volcanoes topic. It easily filled a 90 minute lesson. The content of the PPT could be used to generate more tasksheet, discussion activities.
PPT breakdown. 32 slides cover the following content:
- lesson objectives, key words and syllabus links.
- the 3 P’s of earthquake preparadness - predict, plan and prepare
- Tips to follow in an earthquake event
- Engineering techniques that can be used to make buildings more earthquake resistant, includeing padded foundations, dampeners, shock absorbers, cross bracing, deep foundations. Each method has a small animation to aid in the explantion
The final slide has two tasks for the students to complete - a sketch task of an earthquake resistance builidng, and a written explanation of the 3 P’s.
