Based around the AQA topic Ecosystems processes, students learn about threats the the environment and plan how the school and individuals can do our bit to help.
Planned over 4 lessons, students work on groups of 3-4 and focus around 1 of 4 climate issues:
- Decreasing biodiversity
- Plastic Pollution
- Climate Change
- Deforestation
The general plan is:
Lesson 1: Students receive an information pack around their crisis and pick out key information that they want to focus on in their work.
Lesson 2: Students produce a poster to display this information and inform the public. Students are also provide accurate real world data about their crisis and plot a graph to determine if this is improving or worsening.
Lesson 3: Students receive another information pack about methods of combating the issue and compile key points they want to focus on.
Lesson 4: Students come up with ideas as a school and individuals we can help these issues and produce resources to persuade other people to help. My students produced; leaflets, badges, letters to the head-teacher (which i duly passed on) etc.
All worksheets, ppts., success criteria etc., data, info sheets
Develops: creativity, data analysis, graph drawing, ethical considerations, critical thinking etc.
If laptops are available students could research without the use of the information packs.
