-‘WOMAN’S HOUR’ WHOLE SET EPISODE: ‘Weekend Woman’s Hour: saris, speaking to kids on Andrew Tate, breast cancer history, donor conceived children, Eleanor Williams’ (Aired 14th Jan 2023)

-Maternal mental health, Ellie Goldstein, Kneelers, Black Ops, Power List (Aired 4th may 2023)

-Rape in war, Single-sex spaces, No-fault divorce (Aired 5TH April 2022)

-‘Woman’s Hour’ context of the show

-Deployment of the hosts

-Commercial V Niche radio

-In-depth fact slide on the BBC/ RADIO 4 based on the extensive 2021-2022 report

-Specialised audiences and economic pressures

-Application of Reception theory to one of the set excerpts

-The structure of the BBC/ production of ‘Woman’s Hour’

-Is the TV license justified? Discussion/ guided practice task.

-PSB V Commercial radio and the remit of the BBC/ Royal Charter Agreement

-The BBC as a ‘Walled Garden’

-BBC Sounds

-Scheduling, stripping and peak-off-peak programming

  • DAB V Analogue

-Evaluate the pro’s and con’s of LIVE VS PODCAST RADIO. In your response, be sure to consideration audience preference/ pleasure as well as regulation. Can you also incorporate any of the named theoretical theorists?

-Application of Livingstone and Lunt activity and Liesbet Van Zoonen

-With a consideration of Gauntlett and Butler, what is the significance of a show such as ‘Woman’s Hour’ discussing trans rights/ inclusivity and the concept of what a ‘woman’ is? (BASED ON SET EXCERPT)

-Planning and writing of the following adapted questions:

  1. What is meant by commercial radio? [2]

  2. Briefly explain what you understand by a public service broadcaster. [2]

**IMPORTANT: This resource includes 2 Framework H/W packs, printable power point/Word worksheets and notes in the notes section to support and guide teachers/ learning.

Whilst I have embedded a variety of videos, due to blocks on school accounts/ restrictions, if they do not **work, please see the links in the notes section of each slide.

The power point also includes theoretical framework slides at the end of the power point to aid differentiation/ scaffolding etc.

NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school operates a two year A-Level; AS (YEAR 12) AND A2 (YEAR 13).
Moreover, some of the tasks in lesson and for H/W are dependent upon owning the EDUQAS AS/ A2 Revision Guides/ Mark Dixon’s ‘Media Theory for A Level: The Essential Revision Guide’
