Election of 1868, Ulysses S. Grant

Why did the enfranchisement of African Americans play a significant role in the outcome of the election of 1868? This lesson examines the background and outcome of the presidential election of 1868. Students will examine the electoral map and background of the election analyzing reading passes and answering scaffolding questions. They will critically think to conclude how the African American vote significantly influenced the outcome of the election.
