Experiment to determine the sodium bicarbonate content of bottled water.

This practical is a requirement within the new Pearson BTEC Level 3 specification (Unit 19 - Assignment A).

This investigation consists of three parts: an initial titration to standardise hydrochloric acid; a dilution; and a final titration to determine the concentration of sodium bicarbonate in bottled water. This is an excellent investigation to assess volumetric technique over a number of experiments, giving students a real sense of ownership and application.

Technician sheets are provided, alongside student worksheets with structured support for analytical calculations.
