Analysis of article by Matthew Abbott entitled Dad and the Burma Railway: It changed his life and mine. The article examines the experiences of the writers father, Bruce Abbott as a Prisoner of War constructing the Thailand-Burma Railway and the lasting physical and mental impact these experiences had on him and his son. Great lead-in to a discussion of intergenerational trauma and ways in which society finds to recognise and express feelings relating to this trauma (e.g. Anzac Day, memorials, museums, inclusion in school syllabuses, etc.).
