This free set of maths cards includes fractions, decimals, percentages, words and turkey pie pictures for KS2. Ideal for Thanksgiving & Christmas to play games such as Memory, Snap, Pairs, Families & Go Fish. Students take turns finding equivalent values and thinking mathematically, making connections and becoming more confident with understanding these mathematical concepts.
Kids love playing games so if you can mix learning with playing you know you will be onto a winner! Card activities might seem old-fashioned in our screen-loving age, but these games will help your students become fluent and confident with mathematical thinking without realizing how much they are learning and exercising their maths-thinking brains!
Easy setup makes this perfect for independent activities, centres and supply days. Encourage them to stop the game occasionally and discuss how they know that 20% = 0.2 = one-fifth = 1/5 etc. Explaining this clarifies their thinking and helps them understand converting fractions, decimals and percentages.
Players will be engaged as they will check whether the other players are correct. A fast game of Snap encourages speed in calculating as the person who calls Snap correctly first wins the pile of cards.
Differentiation - make this more challenging by mixing up more than 2 versions e.g. using fractions in numbers and words, illustrations, decimals and/or percentages and finding all the families with equivalent values.
You will get:6 values as
- illustrations (turkey pie)
- illustrations (turkey with pie)
- fractions as numbers e.g. 1/4
- fractions as words e.g. one quarter
- decimals
- percentages
- pattern for the backs of cards
- Prep is easy and quick - print, cut up into cards (laminate with the pattern on the back for repeated use) and you are ready for a fun and engaging class
- Great for your maths and/or Thanksgiving and Christmas centre
- Use this to calculate mathematically and understand fractions by converting the pie illustrations into decimals, percentages and fractions in a fun way
- Ideal as an independent activity as part of a lesson
- Great for fractions, percentages and decimals homework
- Use resources for early finishers or extra practice
- Great for early morning work
- Games are ideal for 2 - 4 players
- Use a stopwatch for individuals to pair up 2 or more sets of cards challenge - who can beat this time/ who is the fastest in the group or class?
- Games are easy to learn how to play
- Games have a competitive element so students will be engaged
- Players will check each other’s mathematical skills and therefore be learning together. Encourage students to discuss their thinking.
