Fun Coded Message Addition Practice worksheets

Three worksheets which require students to decode a hidden message using addition. They are designed for addition practice with added interest for grades 1-4. The hidden messages also provide an opportunity for discussion about the meaning of proverbs. The files are in PDF format.

Coded Message Addition worksheet 1 uses addends from 0 to 21 with almost all addition problems adding on from a larger number and with the sum ranging from 1 to 26. The hidden message is "The early bird catches the worm". This would be suitable for Year 1 or Year 2. It might take 10-25 minutes to complete.

Coded Message Addition worksheet 2 uses addends from 5 to 34 not always adding on from the larger number and with sums ranging from 24 to 49. The hidden message is "Never look a gift horse in the mouth." This would be suitable for Years 2 to 3. It might take 10-25 minutes to complete.

Coded Message 3 uses addends from 10 to 120 with sums ranging from 124 to 149. The hidden message is "The best things are not bought or sold". This would be suitable for Years 3 to 4. It might take 10-25 minutes to complete.
