Functional Skills Maths - Entry Level 1 - Subtraction

This resource has been designed for students working towards Functional Skills Maths qualifications working at Entry Level 1. This resource contains an age-appropriate, 25 page workbook and a 60-slide PowerPoint lesson on subtraction within 20.

The resources will help students to achieve the following outcomes:

subtract one number from another number within 20
recognise and interpret the symbols - and = appropriately
solve word problems using numbers to 20
understand the key words – subtract, minus, find the difference

Workbook

The 25 page workbook includes explanation sheets, 21 worksheets, two progress checks. An answer key is also provided.

PowerPoint Lesson

The PowerPoint clearly explains how to subtract one number from another number (up to and including the number 20). It shows how this can be done by ‘crossing out’, using a numberline and using a ruler. Many opportunities are provided for students to practise this skill. The PowerPoint also contains a number of word problems involving subtraction within 20.
