This is an in-depth 48-page PowerPoint to guide students through the GCSE Dance duet/trio performance unit. It clearly covers choreography and performance skills to give students a chance to develop their practical and theoretical understanding of fundamental areas of the dance GCSE. It is very user friendly and allows for teaching of the unit at your own pace. By referring to the AQA criteria, students will work towards the practical examination as refine the relevant performance skills (technical, expressive, mental and physical).
Slides are eye catching with animations and a good amount of content to chunk the learning appropriately. The slides follow a logical sequence of tasks and information as you teach the unit. This means that students can understand the choreographic process such as learning and developing motifs. This can support their choreography in Year 11 as they will be familiar with how to create a develop a successful dance. I have used the set phrases Flux and Scoop but this could be easily adapted to suit your cohort.
The resource will also support the students’ preparation for the written exam. Students can transfer their learning by reflecting on work in the studio and practising. There are mini quiz questions and many chances to reflect, describe and explain in a way required in the written paper.
I would recommend displaying the PowerPoint as you teach in the studio. This way it’s easy for you and students follow and refer to at any point. This has been so beneficial whilst teaching the duet/trio and I hope you also find it very useful. :)
