Idioms and expressions are a vital part of understanding a language. This card game is designed to be a fun and engaging way to introduce students to both common and more unusual German idioms in the classroom. It’s sure to be a talking point in your classroom and is suitable for learners at all levels, including beginners.

Each of the 36 cards has a German idiom or expression and a direct, literal translation into English on one side and then three possible definitions on the reverse of the card. Only one of these definitions is correct. These cards can be used flexibly in the classroom for small group or whole class activities, and the resource includes detailed instructions to help you organise the game in your classroom, including two different gameplay ideas.

To allow you full flexibility, the resource is included as a print-ready pdf and an editable Word document, although some adjustment of formatting may be necessary if using the Word document.
