Growth of the Roman Empire

Key Question : How were the Romans able to hold so much land? A collection of resources for the popular Y7 topic of the Roman Empire, covering the growth of the Roman Empire, the legend of Romulus and Remus and the conflict with Hannibal and Carthage. A Power Point presentation (15 slides), scheme of work and information booklet provide the main structure for the topic, with a range of worksheets, source material and activity sheets (e.g. card sorts) to cater for the ability range. The unit was designed as an introductory topic in Y7 but would also be suitable at KS2. Concepts included - change, causation, chronology, historical sources, legends, conflict, trade and empire. There is a particular emphasis on historical vocabulary.
