Objectives for this lesson:

• Know the role of haemoglobin in the transportation of oxygen and carbon dioxide around the body.
• Explain how carbonic anhydrase, haemoglobinic acid, HCO3- and the chloride shift are involved in oxygen and carbon dioxide transport.
• Understand that oxygen molecules bind reversibly to haemoglobin.
