Health promotion: How can churches promote health equity in African American communities?

• This teaching resource explains the work of Dr TanYa Gwathmey, a health promotor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She is investigating how churches can deliver health education to African American communities.

• This resource also contains an interview with TanYa and offers an insight into careers in health promotion. If your students have questions for TanYa, they can send them through the Futurum Careers website.

• The activity sheet provides ‘talking points’ (based on Bloom’s Taxonomy) to prompt students to reflect on TanYa’s research and challenges them to become a health ambassador and educate their classmates about a health condition.
