Transform your classroom into an exciting historical journey about the origins and evolution of Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day is getting closer and closer, and what better way to celebrate it than by learning about the story behind this special day and some of its symbols?

I recommend using this resource with Secondary School students. These activities are also suitable for ESL/ELL students whose level of English is Intermediate (B1-B2) or Advanced (C1-C2).

PRINT AND DIGITAL VERSIONS OF THE ACTIVITIES ARE INCLUDED.

RESOURCES INCLUDED:

** An original non-fiction reading passage (3 pages) about the history and evolution of Valentine’s Day as well as the origins and meanings of some of its most common symbols: hearts, roses and Cupid.
** Reading-comprehension questions based on the passage.
** A Multiple Choice quiz based on the passage.
** A True or False activity based on the passage.
** A word search to reinforce key vocabulary and concepts.
** Worksheets with five thought-provoking writing prompts related to Valentine’s Day to encourage research, writing and critical thinking. They can be assigned as homework or students can work with them in class.

SAVE VALUABLE TIME:

  • All activities are in ready-to-print PDF files and DIGITAL VERSIONS. The digital versions include editable boxes; students just have to type their answers on those boxes, save their answers and send the files to the teacher.
  • This pack includes a Teacher’s Guide with all the activities and their corresponding answer keys, as well as the handouts for the students in separate files and suggestions on how to use this resource.
