The lesson first introduces hydrogen bonding by comparing the boiling points of PH3 and NH3. An examination of the diagram of the intermolecular forces between two molecules of each substance as well as the electronegativities of the elements involved leads to the conclusion that NH3 has a higher boiling point.
A more general definition of hydrogen bonding follows.
Students then move on to some application questions identifying if hydrogen bonding occurs between molecules as well as comparing the solubilities and boiling points of different substances.
The answers are given to all the application questions.
