This resource focuses on the language technique iambic pentameter. The worksheet begins with an information box which explains the technique, gives an example and explains its effect. This is followed by a range of activities which build in complexity through the three-page worksheet. Activities include identifying whether particular examples are written in iambic pentameter, labelling examples using the slash/breve annotation method (˘ / ˘ / ˘ / ˘ / ˘ /) and discussing the reasons for and effects of verse written in, and not written in, iambic pentameter.
The PowerPoint is designed to accompany the worksheet and includes sample answers for a number of the worksheet tasks including worked annotations, and suggestions for a further video to deepen student understanding of the technique.
This resource is suitable for a high school audience. The worksheet is included in both Word and pdf formats to ensure no loss of detail.
