This is a SOW for a sequence of lessons introducing some of the key text types studied in English B. There is 30 lessons worth of content here covering - speeches, reviews, blogs, pamphlets/leaflets/brochures and a few others that students prepare and present themselves.

This scheme includes student led activities with a new text type presented each week. The pattern followed is generally:

  1. introduce the text type and check students’ prior knowledge.
  2. look at and analyse some examples of the text type focussing on key features.
  3. Either independently or collaboratively produce a version of the text type displaying the key conventions clearly.

I designed this sequence for HL students who would benefit from a little more freedom and experimentation. It is not content heavy and depends on a class who are willing to work collaboratively and are comfortable presenting ideas in front of their peers.
