Iron Man Setting Description Unit (grammar in context) Y3 Y4 Y5 or Y6 revision

KS2 descriptive writing unit, including shared writing opportunities and grammar in context, covering:

• Sentence structure (SVO)
• Word Classes
• Compound sentences
• Coordinating Conjunctions
• Expanded Noun Phrases
• Prepositional Phrases
• Fronted Adverbials
• Similes

This unit is appropriate for Year 3 and above, and is ideal for the start of the year to learn or revise basic sentence structure and grammar that is needed to access the rest of the KS2 curriculum. If delivered to Y3, skip Fronted Adverbial lesson as this is Y4 content. The unit is based on the two chapters of the Iron Man and any reading that is required is embedded into the slides. All grammar activities are in context and develop the vocabulary and style required for the independent writing. Where appropriate, activities are scaffolded to allow students with SEND or limited English to be successful. Two optional lessons depending on need of students and levels of EAL need within the class. 10 - 12 lessons and activities included.
