2 differentiated booklets made for KS1 children to follow through following a DT process from POAP. This is based on the book The Colour Monster as inspiration for the puppets the children will make.
Stage 1 - investigative and evaluative where children evaluate pre-existing products.
Stage 2 - focused tasks involving running stich, cutting and joining a template and attaching a button
Stage 3 - design including making a design criteria, creating intial ideas, fine tuning to make a finished design, a page for instructions on how to make them, and a page to list the resources the child will need. Children also can consider fabric choice and why they chose that fabric - linking to the science aim in everyday materials around suitability of materials.
Stage 4 - making of a ‘mock up’ where children will practise their design and then evaluate what needs changing before making their finished piece.
Stage 5 - making the design, there is space to include a photo of the finished piece
Stage 6 - evaluation of the product
Each stage has a clear skills based LO to support it, this can be put into medium or short term planning and the booklet can be followed through for planning if needed.
One booklet involves more writing and may lend itself to higher ability children or Year 2s. The other involves more key words, drawing etc, which could lend itself to either Year 1 or lower ability/SEND year 2 children.
