I have created a resource that allows students to revise key themes and characters in the context of an exam style question. This resource is designed to be used to demonstrate progress over time and allows students to practise annotating extracts for the exam. These can be adapted for any texts on the AQA Literature Paper 1.

These worksheets should last an entire lesson and I have used them in the following way:
✔Read the question to students and ask them to write in the initial ideas box. What could they say about that character or theme if they had to answer that question in an exam?
✔Get students to work through the extracts on the sheet. They need to annotate, identify any techniques/ writers’ methods and annotate with WHY they highlighted it. I say to the students, if you can’t say why you highlighted it, it will be very challenging to explain in an essay.
✔Discuss findings as a class and finally fill in the final response box. This can either be bullet points, detailed plan for the question or the beginnings of an essay on the question.

Year 11 students have praised this resource saying that they find it incredibly useful for the range of skills it covers and helps them to identify gaps in their knowledge for further revision at home.

I hope you find this useful. Any feedback or comments would be greatly appreciated.
