This single page handout is a scaffolded annotation guide to Lady Macbeth’s chilling “Raven” soliloquy from Macbeth Act 1 Scene 5.

It invites you to study the speech in detail and answer a series of questions to check students’ understanding regarding symbolism, vocabulary and literary devices.

This worksheet can be used in** conjunction with a reading of the play**, an introduction to the writing of Shakespeare or as a stand alone exercise, as the questions refer specifically to this speech rather than the play as a whole.

The worksheet includes a follow-on exercise where students can pair up and experiment with saying the speech aloud.

What’s included:

  • A single printable worksheet for students.
  • A teacher’s copy with answers.
