This resource contains a medium term plan for a Year 6 topic on Japanese art. It includes a Smart Notebook teaching resource and examples of children’s artwork created during this topic.

I have used this medium term plan to deliver a successful unit of work with Year 6. They loved creating the Japanese art and it made a superb display.

It covers 8 weeks of work and it meets objectives from the art curriculum (2013).

In this topic your class will learn about:

• the Japanese artist Hokusai and his work, and other artists
• a range of art forms including manga and water colour paintings
