Excellent game for children to learn addition and subtraction in an exciting and engaging context.
This lesson allows you to see easily as a teacher who is able to work fluently with addition and subtraction. The set up allows for faster grasping children to work mentally while other children can practice other methods such as the formal method.
As children are ‘buying’ lots of material, they also develop their fluency with multiplication.
This is a very successful lesson for getting children using money. It has been used for Year 2 - Year 5 classes due to the depth available. Year 2 focus simply on adding coins and calculating change, further up school they look into strategies for profit. It works best in mixed ability groups.
